I am back with a post after a very long period, and this time I am so excited, ‘coz I’ve just seen the movie “Ividam Swargamanu” by Roshan Andrews & Team. I have no words to explain the movie… I was spellbound… One of the best movies in Malayala for sure.

.

And I am afraid I can’t write a review of the same, as I can’t really express what I feel. So, just copying down, and which’s truly my opinion too, the review by our very own Berlychaayan (Berly Thomas). However, I had to edit a bit the script of Berlychaayan so as to fit my views.

തിരക്കഥാ വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ തീര്‍ച്ചയായും പഠിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ട തിരക്കഥകളിലൊന്നാണ് ഇവിടം സ്വര്‍ഗമാണ്. മോഹന്‍ലാലിന്റെ ഈ വര്‍ഷം ഇറങ്ങിയതില്‍ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച ചിത്രം. ഒരു നല്ല സിനിമ, നന്മയുള്ള സിനിമ. അനേകം സിനിമകളിലെ ഘടകങ്ങള്‍ കൂട്ടിയിണക്കി പുതിയതൊന്നു നിര്‍മിക്കുന്ന തിരക്കഥാബോധത്തിന് അപവാദമാണ് ഈ ചിത്രം. റിയല്‍ എസ്റ്റേറ്റ് മാഫിയയോട് ഒരു കര്‍ഷകന്‍ നടത്തുന്ന ഒറ്റയാള്‍ പോരാട്ടത്തിന്റെ കഥ. മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ എന്ന നടനെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് കനപ്പെട്ട കഥാപാത്രമല്ല ഇത്. എങ്കിലും നേര്‍ത്ത നര്‍മത്തില്‍ ചാലിച്ച ലാലിന്റേതുമാത്രമായ ചില പ്രകടനങ്ങള്‍ ചിത്രത്തിനു മാറ്റു കൂട്ടുന്നു. മിഥുനത്തിലെയും വെള്ളാനകളുടെ നാട്ടിലെയും കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ അനുസ്മരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒന്ന്. സിനിമയും ആത്യന്തികമായി അതേ നിലവാരത്തില്‍ വരുന്നതു തന്നെ. ക്ളാസ്മേറ്റ്സ്, സൈക്കിള്‍ എന്നീ ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ശേഷം ജയിംസ് ആല്‍ബര്‍ട്ട് എഴുതി ഉദയനാണ് താരത്തിനും നോട്ട്ബുക്കിനും ശേഷം റോഷന്‍ ആന്‍ഡ്രൂസ് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ഇവിടം സ്വര്‍ഗമാണ് എന്ന സിനിമയ്ക്ക് വ്യത്യസ്തമായ സിനിമ എന്ന ലേബലാവും കൂടുതല്‍ യോജിച്ചത്.

കൊമേഴ്സ്യല്‍ ഹിറ്റ് സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള പരിശ്രമങ്ങളൊന്നും ബോധപൂര്‍വം നടത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. സത്യസന്ധമായ ഒരു സിനിമ നീതിപൂര്‍വം സൃഷ്ടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അതിഭാവുകത്വമില്ലാത്ത ഷോട്ടുകള്‍. സിനിമയില്‍ മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ എന്ന സൂപ്പര്‍ഹീറോയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യമില്ല. ജൈവകൃഷിയിലും പശുവളര്‍ത്തലിലും തന്റെ ജീവിതം കണ്ടെത്തുന്ന മാത്യൂസ് എന്ന സാധാരണക്കാരനായ കര്‍ഷകനായി ലാല്‍ മനോഹരമായ പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ച വച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ചിത്രത്തില്‍ ഏറ്റവും ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ പ്രകടനം ലാലു അലക്സിന്റേതാണ്. ഇന്റര്‍വെല്ലിനോടടുത്ത് മാത്രം സ്ക്രീനില്‍ വരുന്ന ആലുവാ ചാണ്ടി എന്ന റിയല്‍ എസ്റ്റേറ്റ് കച്ചവടക്കാരനായി ലാലു അലക്സിന്റെ മികച്ച വില്ലന്‍വേഷങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് ചിത്രത്തിലേത്.

മികച്ച സിനിമ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നതില്‍ റോഷന്‍ ആന്‍ഡ്രൂസ് എന്ന സംവിധായകന്‍ വിജയിച്ചു . വിശാലമായ ക്യാന്‍വാസില്‍ കഥ പറയുന്നില്ല എന്നതു തന്നെയാവണം കാരണം. ചിത്രത്തില്‍ ഗനങ്ങള്‍ ഒന്നുമില്ല. കോമഡിക്കുവേണ്ടിയുള്ള സീനുകളോ സംഭാഷണങ്ങളോ ഇല്ല. അനൂപ് ചന്ദ്രന്‍ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന മാത്യൂസിന്റെ പശു ഫാമിലെ ജോലിക്കാരന്‍ മാത്രമാണ് ഇടക്കിടെ ചില വിറ്റുകള്‍ പൊട്ടിക്കുന്നത്. മഴ സിനിമയില്‍ ശക്തമായ സാന്നിധ്യമാണ്. കര്‍ഷകനും മഴയുമായുള്ള ബന്ധം സിനിമയില്‍ പ്രതീകാത്മകമായി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മഴ ഒരു കഥാപാത്രമായി വന്ന സിനിമകള്‍ അടുത്ത കാലത്തൊന്നും നമുക്കുണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല. മഴയുടെ ദൃശ്യവല്‍ക്കരണവും ഡിടിഎസ് ശബ്ദസവിധാനവും പ്രേക്ഷകരെക്കൂടി നനയ്ക്കുന്നുണ്ട് ചില സീനുകളില്‍.

സാധാരണ സിനിമകളില്‍ ക്ളൈമാക്സിനോടടുക്കുമ്പോള്‍ പിരിമുറുക്കം വര്‍ധിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ഈ ചിത്രത്തില്‍ നേരേ തിരിച്ചാണ്. തിരക്കഥാകൃത്തിന്റെ കഠിനാധ്വാനത്തിന്റെ മികവ് ഈ സീനുകളില്‍ വ്യക്തമാവും. തിയറ്റര്‍ ബുദ്ധിയില്‍ നോക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യപാതിയെക്കാള്‍ മികച്ചു നില്‍ക്കുന്നത് രണ്ടാം പാതി തന്നെയാണ്. റിയല്‍ എസ്റ്റേറ്റ് മാഫിയയുടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനശൈലി ആഴത്തില്‍ പഠിച്ച് അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

കോടനാട് എന്ന ഗ്രമത്തില്‍ മാത്യൂസ് എന്ന ജൈവകര്‍ഷകന്റെ പുഴയോരത്തുള്ള നാലേക്കര്‍ ഫാമിനെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റിയാണ് സിനിമയുടെ കഥ. മാത്യൂസിന്റെ അപ്പച്ചന്‍ ജെറെമിയാസിന്റെ (തിലകന്‍) പേരിലുളളതാണ് ഫാം. പത്താം ക്ളാസ് കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ പഠനം നിര്‍ത്തി കൃഷിയിലേക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞ മാത്യൂസ് കോടനാട്ടിലെങ്ങും വിഷം കലരാത്ത പച്ചക്കറികളും പാലും ന്യായവിലയ്ക്ക് എത്തിക്കുന്നു. മാത്യൂസിന്റെ ഫാമിനെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റിയാണ് ഗ്രാമത്തിന്റെ തുടിപ്പ്. മാത്യൂസിന്റെ അയല്‍ക്കാരനായ ആലുവാ ചാണ്ടിക്ക് മാത്യൂസിന്റെ ഫാമില്‍ റിയല്‍ എസ്റ്റേറ്റ് താല്‍പര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഉദിക്കുന്നതോടെ ഫാം വില്‍ക്കാന്‍ സമ്മര്‍ദ്ദമേറുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍, തന്റെ ജീവനായ ഫാം വില്‍ക്കാന്‍ മാത്യൂസ് ഒരുക്കമല്ല. മാത്യൂസിന്റെ ഫാം കൂടി ലഭിച്ചാല്‍ കോടനാട്ടില്‍ വലിയ ടൌണ്‍ഷിപ് കൂടി വരുമെന്ന ആലുവാചാണ്ടിയുടെ പ്രചരണത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ മാത്യൂസിന്റെ അഭ്യുദയകാംക്ഷിയായ വികാരിയച്ചന്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ളവര്‍ ഫാം വില്‍ക്കാന്‍ തയ്യാറാവാത്ത മാത്യൂസിന് എതിരാവുന്നു. തുടര്‍ന്നങ്ങോട്ട് മാത്യൂസിന് തന്റെ ഫാം സംരക്ഷിക്കാന്‍ ഒരു ഒറ്റയാള്‍ പോരാട്ടം നയിക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നു. പോരാട്ടത്തിന്റെ അവസാനം അനിവാര്യമായ പരാജയത്തിലെത്തിച്ചേരുന്ന മാത്യൂസ് പുതിയൊരു ഗെയിം കണ്ടെത്തുന്നു. മുള്ളിനെ മുള്ളു കൊണ്ടെടുക്കുന്ന ഈ കൌശലമാണ് സിനിമയുടെ രണ്ടാം പാതിയിലെ ത്രസിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പുതുമ.

കോഴിക്കോട് സ്വദേശിയായ യുവകര്‍ഷകന്‍ ഡാനിഷ് മജീദിന്റെ കഥയാവണം ഈ സിനിമയുടെ പ്രചോദനം. ഡാനിഷ് മജീദിന് സമൂഹത്തില്‍ നിന്നും പഞ്ചായത്ത് അധികൃതരില്‍ നിന്നും നേരിടേണ്ടി വന്ന എതിര്‍പ്പുകള്‍ ഏറെക്കുറെ സിനിമയിലും അതേപടി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. പഞ്ചായത്ത് അടച്ചുപൂട്ടിയ ഡാനിഷിന്റെ ഫാം തുറക്കാന്‍ ഇടപെട്ടത് മാധ്യമങ്ങളാണ്. മാത്യൂസിന്റെ ഫാമും പശുസംരക്ഷണവും ഡാനിഷിന്റെ ഫാമിലേതു തന്നെ. ഡാനിഷിന്റെ കഥ മാധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ വന്നപ്പോള്‍ മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ ഡാനിഷിനെ ഫോണില്‍ വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ലാല്‍ ഡാനിഷിന്റെ ഫാം സന്ദര്‍ശിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നുവത്രേ.

സ്ഥിരം ഫോര്‍മുലകള്‍ക്കോ സങ്കല്‍പങ്ങള്‍ക്കോ അതീതമായ സിനിമയുടെ വിധി പ്രേക്ഷകരുടെ കയ്യിലാണ്. 100 ദിവസം ഓടാന്‍ യോ•്യതയുള്ള സിനിമ. കുടുംബബന്ധങ്ങളുടെ എന്നതിനെക്കാള്‍ കര്‍ഷകന് അവന്റെ കൃഷിഭൂമിയോടുള്ള ബന്ധമാണ് കൂടുതല്‍ ആഴത്തില്‍ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. മാത്യൂസിന് അപ്പച്ചനോടുള്ള ബന്ധവും പ്രേക്ഷകരെ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കും. ലക്ഷ്മി റായ്, ലക്ഷ്മി ഗോപാലസ്വാമി, പ്രിയങ്ക എന്നിവര്‍ ചിത്രത്തിലുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ചിത്രത്തില്‍ നായിക ഇല്ലെന്നു പറയാം. മാത്യൂസിന്റെ സുഹൃത്ത് സുധീര്‍ ആയി ശങ്കര്‍ ശക്തമായ കഥാപാത്രത്തെയാണ് അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.

മാത്യൂസിന്റെ അമ്മയായി കവിയൂര്‍ പൊന്നമ്മയും വല്യമ്മയായി സുകുമാരിയും വേഷമിടുന്നു. ശ്രീനിവാസന്‍, ഇന്നസെന്റ്, ജഗതി ശ്രീകുമാര്‍, മണിയന്‍പിള്ള രാജു, ബാലചന്ദ്രന്‍ ചുള്ളിക്കാട്, സാദിഖ്, പ്രേം പ്രകാശ്, ശോഭ മോഹന്‍, ഇടവേള ബാബു  തുടങ്ങി വലിയൊരു താരനിരയെ കൂടാതെ ഒട്ടേറെ പുതുമുഖങ്ങളും രണ്ടാംനിര നടന്മാരും ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ വേഷങ്ങള്‍ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. നല്ല സംവിധായകനാണ് താനെന്ന് റോഷന്‍ ഒരിക്കല്‍ കൂടി തെളിയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

I was thinking of writing a post like this in a public blog, and I found I should, because there’re many people who continue to have the following complaint, rather, a misunderstanding, about me. However, don’t think that I’m an image-oriented guy, though I’m posting this to prove my stands/truth. It’s not a post came from a boy’s anger, but from the depth of his emotions hurt.

Recently one in CEC (I’m sorry, I can’t reveal the name, lets’s call ‘X’) told me that I have turned out to be one whom many of the gangs do not like, today. And X also revealed that many of them liked me for what I was, in the first and second years. I was totally takenaback hearing this, as I did never expect such an opinion about me, especially from my friends. I couldn’t help asking X the reason behind it. It’s more awkward. The reasons, however, are the following. I’m sorry if I am doing it wrong here, but I can’t help:

• Many of the major decisions taken by students in the college, are influenced by me either directly or indirectly.

• There’s a clear case of omnipotence from MH boys, especially in deciding the posts in major events, and in SUMMIT 09 too. I always play the major role in those decisions. And the same scandal had taken place during SUMMIT 09 commitee head finalization. And a strong compliant is that when the execom of SUMMIT 09 was re-elected, it’s me who wouted it to my desire. Also, because of all these actions, many boys outside MH do not get posts, though they deserve.

• Even though I do all these, I do not accept any post at the college, and it’s also a part of the trick (I dunno what is meant). X has put forward some examples viz. in Arts, Sports etc, I, myself, overtook.

My Response

• Let me clear it that those who know me clearly would never, I believe, complain like this.
• Yes, I have no posts in CEC so far. Let’s have a postmortem of this:
• From the first year onwards, the posts reserved for my batch were as follows. Let’s consider them.
  • • General Secretary, Arts Secretary, Sports Secretary, Magazine Editor, IEEE, FOCES, FLOSS CELL, PRODDEC, SUMMIT 09, NSS, Treasurer etc.
    • I strongly believe that Arts and Sports Secreatries did their jobs simply well, and those posts are definitely not suitable for me. Regarding the student organizations, I am not a member of any of these. Some people asked me whether I could be the editor of the magazine; but, let me be frank, I think I can’t take up such a big responsibility. Yes, I was in that post during my schooling days, but these days I am not capable of doing it. Now I see how much pain Mr. Sajeesh takes up to complete his duties. It’s beyond our imagination, and  that’s why I couldn’t take up such responsibilities too, as I was sure that I couldn’t. I am a self-evaluating person at every corner of my life. Thereby I find myself to have lost certain values, including my confidence in doing things.
    • As for SUMMIT 09, I could be the part of the core organizing part so far. But, I swear that I have never played such a wretched role of withdrawing chances of the deserved. And nobody has played bad politics on this. Those who work with me know me well, that I loose heart very soon on issues and I thought that this character must not affect the event. That’s why I didn’t want to be in any relevant position and that I am not in execom of SUMMIT now. Previous General Convener Mr. Arjun R Pillai, and current General Convener Mr. Sanoop Thomas are aware of this character of mine, and they’ve assented to me in this regard. This problem has, simply, been proven in College Day 2009. I was performing the initial documentation duties, but meanwhile i lost interest and I couldn’t even fulfill my duties assigned to me. This is just one of the instances. And that’s why I kept myself back so far. I am trying hard to get rid of this, and many of my friends, especially Sanoop and Arjun are helping me out. Thanks to them…
    • Regarding the committee heads of SUMMIT 09, the heads were finalized in the presence of either the student representative of all classes or the execom representatives. Unlike previous years, the SUMMIT team planned to ensure participation of all the students of CEC 2010 batch. And that’s why a huge committee list was prepared, including all the 197 students of the batch. Believe me, no previous SUMMITs had this feature. This strategy is followed to include all the students in organizing the event; but still some complain against the goodwill of this decision. It’s indeed hurting.
    • And you may ask Mr. Laiju K Raju, the Arts Secretary or Mr. Jerin George, Sports Secretary whether I was overtaking them… I was helping them in doing things, and I continue to help my friends in whatever they do for the college. It’s very clear for all of you, I believe, that I was trying to help the secretaries during arts and sports. Without knowing all these, making mere comments will do nothing, expect personal harm.
    • And for your kind information, no decisions are taken exclusively for and at MH. As far as I understand, every decision regarding the college are taken in the presence of class representatives. Sometimes, MH happens to be the rendezvous for them. That’s all. It must not be interpreted otherwise.

And finally, I repeat that all the above are written in response to the complaints made by some people. Making it public with a view to pervading the truth among all such people. And for myself, I am one who would like to work for the institution I study, and I’ve done it in my past too. Kindly do never have misunderstood thoughts about these intentions. As my friend Amal always says, “Being misunderstood is the biggest pain in the world”.

Hi all,

23 April: a symbolic date for world literature for on this date and in the same year of 1616, Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors such as Maurice Druon, K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. It was a natural choice for UNESCO’s General Conference to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone, and in particular young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and gain a renewed respect for the irreplaceable contributions of those who have furthered the social and cultural progress of humanity.

World Books Day

The idea for this celebration originated in Catalonia where on 23 April, Saint George’s Day, a rose is traditionally given as a gift for each book sold. The success of the World Book and Copyright Day will depend primarily on the support received from all parties concerned (authors, publishers, teachers, librarians, public and private institutions, humanitarian NGOs and the mass media), who have been mobilized in each country by UNESCO National Commissions, UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations, Associated Schools and Libraries, and by all those who feel motivated to work together in this world celebration of books and authors.

Hi all,

Following the last university exam have been days of complete boredom and I couldn’t help sleeping for at least 12 hour a day. I strongly suspect that I’ve become a complete nocturnal. And I’ve started reading the famous novel “Five Point Someone” by Chetan Bhagath. As Meenakshi said the novel is still interesting, especially for a beginner like me. But it would not help improving my language skill, I would say. However, it’s worth reading, as I could compare the lives in the novel with those in my college.

Sanop Thomas came and met me in regard of SUMMIT 09 discussions. It extended upto 5 AM in the morning. Don’t think that whole thing was about SUMMIT only. As you know, everything under the sun, no matter how it’s important or not, can be the topic for a chat in a hostel, especially in a boys’ hostel like ours. It includes, state of Indian politics, history of India after 1947, history f political parties in India, evaluation of previous governments, who could be the winner in the current elections, job opportunities and what not!!! Jillu, Aniz, Ajmal and Amal joined us at the middle.

Vishnu, Raku and Prince have gone to Trivandrum for donating blod. It’s stunning for Prince that his Jaundice count was 1.9! He didn’t even know that he’d it, I guess. I heard they might be staying there today.

And today is World Earth Day. The day which’s reserved for lovers of mother earth; the day that helps us to remember the pathetic state of the planet. I tried some search on Google about this. Meanwhile, I came across the new option available in Google Image Search: Color filtering. It’s damn useful to those like ATM and all.

I am a little busy now… No, no, not with studies. Gotta some works in Vineeth’s PC. Some installations. He got it reinstalled just today. And I am downloading some stuffs from net, and an original copy of MS-XP that’s free for IEEE members, using Amal’s membership. Catch you all later…

I am back after a long span of time. Actually, these days I didn’t feel like blogging. There are certain incidents which I would like to blog here, which happened in this span of time. I will be writing them all later.

Now, it’s the time of elections to the Lok Sabha. Yesterday (16-04-2009) I casted my first vote, tereby utilizing the fundamental right of a citizen of Union Republic of India, becoming an Indian in full sense (?). The main candidates in Ernakulam Parliamentary Constituency were the following:

It’s the first election that takes place after the redesigning the boundaries of Parliamentary Constituencies. I had to vote at BVHS, Nayarambalam at Booth No: 49 of Vypeen State Assembly Constituency (formerly, Njarakkal Constituency) – No: 79 with a serial no: 393.

As it’s my first vote, like everyone else, I was very excited to cast my vote. So I reached 5 minutes earlier to the commencement of polling: at 6:55 AM. There’s not much a of long queue, and I could be, I would say, seventh or eighth person to vote in that booth. My mom was also with me.

One of the stunning incident at home was that, I guess, my father did a great mistake to me, might be the first mistake he does to me and which I never expected from him. He asked me to vote for LDF, and said then only I will be having an affinity towards some idiologies. I was takenaback, and I couldn’t help denying him for the reason I quoted in the former paragraph.

My First Vote

Unexpectedly, my father asked me what I am gonna do after B.tech. The very question all the engineering students are dumb at. In this era of recession, I couldn’t open my mouth against his question and I just retaliated IAS or MS (Oh God, I could say this!!!) in an absent-minded manner that he just smiled at me.

Also, it’s Vishu on 14th April. To my surprise, there was a packet of crackers and other Vishu articles bought at home, waiting for me. Mom said, still they consider me as a child (Ah me!! 20 Years old chap!!!)

On coming back from home, there was a same discussion on the future plans. It turned out to be more a forum of grievences than a discussion. Nobody still has an idea about it – GATE, GRE, CAT, MAT… all these T’s were under consideration, and even starting a company too…
